12. Multitrack Software & Computer Music Recording Programs

Multitrack software computer music recording programs are an integral part of a home recording studio. Recording flexibility and editing freedom are two of the greatest benefits of multitrack recording software.

Multitrack recording allows multiple sound sources to record separate tracks, and create a whole mix. Computer based studios are capable of an unlimited number of 'record and playback' tracks, if computer and memory are fast enough to meet software requirements. The number of simultaneous tracks available for recording is only limited by the number of sound card analog or digital inputs.

Instrument and vocal recordings can be stored, accessed, and manipulated individually to produce a huge variety of desired results before mixdown. (The phase of re-recording all tracks into two stereo tracks.)

Multitrack recording allows a solo musician to record multiple parts to create an ensemble. And duos, trios and larger groups to double parts or add different instruments. DJ remixes are also an excellent possibility for multitrack recording because of the potential for blending and altering of individually recorded tracks.

Use of a computer for recording individual tracks, editing recordings, applying interesting effects, and producing a stereo mix down is amazing power available for any home studio recording artist.
